Hello! I am the Professional Learning Specialist at Rock Canyon High School. Often, I’m asked what I do and I find that it’s hard to explain in a word because I wear many hats. I support new teachers and run our school’s Induction Program which state law requires of us. I plan, coordinate and allocate funds for professional development opportunities for teachers. In addition, I facilitate a number of committees and programs at Rock Canyon including our Learning and Leadership Team, CITE 6 Team, and Technology Committee. I am also a liaison between the school and the district. I also coordinate our student’s Advanced Learning Plans. This year, I am SO excited to be helping with our Global Learner Program: We have 22 students participating in this class and going to an international conference in Switzerland this summer! Ultimately, I see myself as teacher advocate and try to think with the teacher hat on when I’m at Admin and District meetings because I believe teacher success correlates directly to student success. As a Social Studies teacher for 18 years and education for 29, I have experienced the joys and challenges of the profession. I am a Denver native and a graduate of East High School, Colorado College and Brown University. I taught Social Studies at Torrington High School in Wyoming for three years before moving back to Denver. I taught at Colorado’s Finest Alternative High School until I was hired by Douglas County Schools in 1990. I taught at Highlands Ranch High School, then was on the opening team for ThunderRidge High School and Rock Canyon High School where I’ve been the Professional Learning Specialist for eleven years. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, reading, yoga, swimming, and spending time in the mountains with my family.
