Special Education

Mild/Moderate Needs programming assists students in developing skills and learning behaviors which enable them to benefit from the general education program, even with the challenges presented by their disabilities. Programming offers support in the learning content area or language processing area which makes learning in the conventional sense difficult. Delivery of service is through collaboration (team teaching), consultation, differentiated instruction, materials modification, small group instruction and/or direct instruction within the special education setting.

Significant Support Needs (SSN) programming is designed for students K-12th grades who experience cognitive impairment and may have one or more additional disability in language, motor, or other areas of development. Academic and living skills instruction are modified to meet student needs.

Meet Finn, Rock Canyon's AAI therapy dog!

AAI is a goal-directed and evidence-based intervention designed to promote improvement in human physical, social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive functioning. Participating in this program and interacting with a therapy dog is entirely voluntary, which may include small group and/or individual interventions focused on social and emotional wellness and humane education. The therapy dog and its certified professional handler have been insured for liability and have undergone extensive training and certifications for Animal-Assisted Interventions and have been approved by DCSD to work within Rock Canyon High School as a Certified Therapy Dog team.
