Community Service
What is Community Service?
Community service is unpaid work performed for the benefit and betterment of a community. We want to connect you to your community.
Each RCHS student is required to perform 20 hours of community service in order to graduate from RCHS. Hours must be entered and validated in Helper Helper by April 1st of your Senior Year.
What is NOT CONSIDERED VOLUNTEERING and will not be counted toward community service hours?
- Fostering pets, pet sitting or house sitting
- Any jobs for one’s parents, relatives, friends or an employer
- Any volunteer opportunity that is paid for or for credit for disciplinary or adjudicated purposes
- Any activity that is rewarded by a badge, such as Boy or Girl Scouts
- Must be done outside of the home for an organization
- Only 50 hours total per season of being a team manager for any high school sport is allowed ONLY IF they are not receiving a sports letter from the sport for which they are a manager. If they are receiving an athletic letter from the sports team they are managing, they will NOT receive any community service hours as they are receiving a benefit (athletic letter) from the team.
- Club/Organization meetings are not considered volunteering.
- Paid or unpaid internships are not community service.
This list is not exhaustive. Please see the Counseling Office if there is any question as to whether or not a volunteer opportunity would be approved.
Welcome RCHS Jag volunteer, and thanks for volunteering! We want to connect you to your community and make it easier for you to find volunteer opportunities, commit to events and track your community service hours. We use the Helper Helper app to coordinate and track community service.
