August 2017 eBlast RE: Graduation

Good afternoon Parents of Seniors,

We are pleased to say the Class of 2018 is off to a great start on their senior year at Rock Canyon High School.  I took an opportunity to meet with them this morning and they are excited to get their last year of high school started on a positive note which started with a “sunrise breakfast” in the courtyard today.

This morning I made an important announcement that I want to share with you. If you have been around Rock Canyon for the past several years you would know that weather has negatively impacted our outdoor graduation ceremony multiple times. We have had to go as far as cancelling and rescheduling graduation last year which caused a disruption in many family celebrations and travel arrangements.

Therefore, I am excited to announce that beginning with the Class of 2018, our venue for graduation has changed. We will now be conducting our ceremony in the Magness Arena at the University of Denver.

Our Graduation Committee had the opportunity to tour our new venue and watch Cherokee Trail High School’s graduation last spring. There are many benefits to moving our graduation to this new venue and we wanted to highlight a couple for you. It is a beautiful indoor venue with over 6,100 seats. This will allow our students to invite their friends and family members without limiting the numbers or requiring tickets. Since DU hosts over 40 graduations each year, the logistics are in place for a smooth ceremony complete with a Jumbotron screen to capture your student’s “walk across the stage” to receive his or her diploma.

We were fortunate to secure the date for our Graduation on Saturday, May 26 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. which should give us all ample time to plan.

Needless to say, the students were enthusiastic to learn they would be the first class to graduate from Rock Canyon at Magness Arena. Further details regarding graduation will be forthcoming.

The next Senior Meeting will be held during Seminar on Tuesday, September 26. At this meeting Jostens will present information regarding graduation announcements, caps and gowns. Watch for an information packet from your student that day for further information. Jostens will also be available to take orders and answer questions at Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 4 and 5.

I’m looking forward to seeing your students excel this year and finish strong as Rock Canyon Jaguars. I thank you for your continued support of educational excellence.

Sincerely,

Andy Abner
Principal
Rock Canyon High School
